Retired baseball star Derek Jeter has finally scored a buyer for his lakefront castle in New York, after six years on the market and more than $8 million in discounts. Tiedemann Castle, less than 50 miles from Manhattan in the village of Greenwood Lake, New York, has been on and off the market since mid-2018, when the former New York Yankee first listed it for $14.75 million. He even put it on the auction block in 2022 to no avail. [Source:Mansion Global]
Earlier this month, though, the unique property reappeared on the market with a newly slimmed down $6.3 million sticker price, and as of Thursday, was pending sale.
A final sale price and any information on the buyer won’t be available until the deal closes. A limited liability company tied to Jeter, who played for the Yankees for his entire two-decade career, acquired the property in multiple pieces in the early 2000s, records with PropertyShark show. It’s not clear how much he paid.
The “magical property” has been “lovingly restored beyond its original grandeur,” according to the listing with Diane Mitchell of Wright Bros. Real Estate. She declined to comment on the deal.
The almost 9,000-square-foot medieval-looking main home comes complete with an imposing tower and battlements, multiple kitchens, a sunroom, an office, a game room, a formal dining room, an office and a family room with a bar.
And “extensive lake views await you from most of the rooms as well as from both turrets and the rooftop,” the listing said.
Outside of the main house, the 4-acre property boasts a guest house, a pool house, a pool, a private lagoon, a boat house and a boat dock. There’s also a stone waterfall and a replica of the Statue of Liberty. [Source:Mansion Global]
